Old


Take an image of something “old” this could be a man made item, a derelict building, a vehicle ,a boat .
Or something living -tree, person, animal showing the character of the subject and the features of age.


February (1st Mar)
Creative

Creative photography is about shapes, colours ,dynamic range, distortions or a combination of all these elements, it could be unusual angles or perspectives. it could include the use of bokeh, motion blur, water & oil, smoke art, movement etc.


March 29th
Monochrome

Any subject that you feel is enhanced by using monochrome, showing special attention to composition & tonal range. Monochrome describes a photograph produced in only one colour including all of its tones.

Shadows

In this category,  images should have as their principal subject, strong and dominant shadows.  The judge will be looking for dramatic impact. The shadows can be in the form of a pattern, parallel lines, or any other style as envisioned by the author.

Anything goes here but members are encouraged to try techniques and subjects which show their creative and technical skills.


July 26th
Hobbies & Pastimes

Images entered for this category should depict some aspect of a particular hobby or pastime. there is no limitation on the type of activity, or even inactivity, which may fall within this category. Examples could be :-
a person reading, someone sewing or knitting. a gardener, bird watcher etc. There is no specific requirement to include a human participant in the image e.g. a hobby or pastime can be depicted by the equipment used,
a chess set, gardening tools,
an artist’s easel and palette etc.


August 30th
Flora

Flora includes all plant life in or away from its environment. The plant or flower itself must be the focus of the image – any animals or insects or other objects should only be a peripheral if included as an essential part of the plants environment. you may also decide to zoom in on a small detail pf the plant.


September 27th
Scapes

An expanse of scenery that can be seen in a single view. We would like you to produce a photographic image that capture the spirit of the outdoors. An area of land sea or sky- wild, cultivated, or even industrial it’s up to you. so seascape, landscape, skyscape, nightscape, cityscape.


October 25th
Sports Action

As the name suggests the judge will be looking for images which depict dramatic moments which occur during sporting contest (either amateur or professional).
They probably will be fast shutter speed, action freezing shots, but motion blur is also acceptable.
High speed, fast action sports
(such as football, rugby, athletics, motorsports and skiing) are likely to provide the best opportunities.


November 22nd
Macro

Macro photography is extreme close-up photography usually of very small is subjects and living organisms like insects, in which the size of the subject in the photograph is greater than life-size. The more unusual the better.


December 13th
POTY

All the 1st & 2nd placed images from Prints and DPI sections of the internal competitions of the past year are to be independently judged to ascertain the best printed image, the best DPI image and finally the Best overall image.
